Parasolid Convergent Modeling
Solid Edge seamlessly combines traditional “b-rep” solid models with triangular mesh models without time-consuming and error-prone conversions. Convergent Modeling by Siemens allows for traditional b-rep operations on digitally scanned 3D data and models born out of generative design, reducing rework while supporting modern additive manufacturing processes for complex shapes.
The strength of Parasolid can now be applied to facet models. By converging classic boundary representation (b-rep) and facet model operations in a single geometric modeling component, Parasolid convergent modeling enables software vendors to efficiently support workflows that must leverage both geometric representations. Examples include the reverse engineering of digitally scanned models, CAE workflows and preparing models for 3D printing. By allowing traditional b-rep modeling operations to work directly on facetted geometry, the time consuming and often error prone task of converting facetted models to precise CAD geometry can be completely eliminated; thus dramatically improving product design efficiency
3D Reverse Engineering
In conjunction with powerful 3D design tools, Solid Edge delivers smart functionality to work with mesh, or triangle-based data. Bodies can be imported from other systems, digitally scanned or products of a generative design analysis. All of these come in as a mesh of triangles (or facets) and in many cases require further design modification. Solid Edge provides intuitive mesh cleanup tools to remove any errors that may have resulted from the import process, allowing designers to obtain a workable set of triangles. Once you have a sound mesh, regions can be identified and created, and those regions can be further extracted as surfaces and edited using traditional surface modeling tools.
Imported mesh bodies don’t always meet your needs, so Solid Edge delivers tools to remove specific facets or mesh regions, fill holes and smooth the mesh. These mesh cleanup operations help designers to prepare faceted bodies for downstream modeling and/or manufacturing. Finding logical facet shapes is paramount to preparing the geometry for analytical surface operations, and the Identify Regions tools permit logical grouping of triangles which can be used in the creation of faces. The true power of reverse engineering is realized when you can create native surfaces on top of imported data. Solid Edge delivers commands to not only extract faces from identified regions of the mesh, but also to fit analytical faces on top of regions.
3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing
Solid Edge software includes tools that help you design your components to take advantage of the latest 3D printing and additive manufacturing techniques, and to prepare and output your designs to different 3D printing hardware and services. You can easily print individual prototype models on your own 3D printers, or upload your models to the cloud to receive instant quotes for manufacturing your part in different materials and have the part shipped to your door.
Solid Edge supports output of your part models to 3D Printers using the 3D Print command. Write out your parts to .stl and .3MF formats, or send your parts directly to the Microsoft 3D Builder app. You can also send your designs to cloud-based 3D Printing services like 3YOURMIND to get quotes for manufacturing the part in different materials and shipping the part to your location
Solid Edge Scalable Simulation
Solid Edge Simulation is a new, built-in finite element analysis (FEA) tool for design engineers to digitally validate part and assembly designs within the Solid Edge environment. Based on proven Femap finite element modeling and NX Nastran solver technology, Solid Edge Simulation significantly reduces the need for physical prototypes, which lowers your material and testing costs, and saves design time. With Solid Edge Simulation you can create finite element models for solid and sheet metal structures automatically, as well as make adjustments to refine the mesh to improve accuracy of the results. For assemblies, Solid Edge Simulation offers automatic contact detection and sets up realistic component interaction, including iterative linear and glued contact.
Solid Edge Simulation provides all of the boundary condition definitions that you’ll need to model realistic operating environments for analysis. Loads and constraints are geometry-based and easy to set up using Solid Edge’s Quick Bar input options and handles. With Solid Edge Simulation you can investigate static analyses, determine the natural frequencies of the structure, and find out if it can withstand expected loading conditions without buckling. If your analysis needs go beyond the functions in Solid Edge Simulation, then you can easily move your designs and modeling data into the advanced Femap FE modeling and analysis environment.

Solid Edge Portal is simple to use, and you can access your files securely, whenever you want and wherever you are using popular web browsers. You can easily upload any of your design files to the cloud and organize them using project folders. Any file type can be uploaded to support project collaboration, and using the built-in viewer users can directly view 3D models in many popular CAD formats.
